Joshua Kors PBS Special Tonight on Vet Jailed Until he Agreed to say his Wounds Were Pre-existing
VMFP Members: You may recall Journalist Joshua Kors was at our National Conference this past fall in Virginia. He remains vigilant in covering the military’s efforts to reduce claims by injured veterans and wants VMFP members to check out his program, tonight on PBS:
"The show, 'Now,' is a collaboration with PBS reporter Maria Hinojosa. We tell the story of Sgt. Chuck Luther, who was struck by mortar fire in Iraq, then jailed until he agreed to sign papers saying his wounds were pre-existing. Luther is an eloquent speaker with a powerful story. I hope you'll tune in--and share this message with friends and family so they can see what's happening to so many of our soldiers."
To remind members: Joshua Kors is the preeminent reporter on the military's efforts to refuse the claims of injured veterans on grounds they are pre-existing or personality disorders. He has testified before Congress and his work was cited in a letter sent by a number of Senators (including Obama and Clinton) to SecDef Gates last June, and absolutely reports the ground truth on this subject in The Nation and other media outlets. Unlike Bill O'Reilly, Joshua Kors did, in fact receive the George Polk Award, among other awards, for his efforts this past Spring.
Tonight's program will outrage any normal American since it tells Luther's story, and that of the 22,500 other troops who have been discharged with personality disorder since GWOT commenced.
"When he went for medical help, the Army doctor said Luther was faking his deafness and blindness -- and that he was doing so because he was mentally ill, with "personality disorder," a discharge that denies soldiers a lifetime of medical care and disability pay," Kors writes.
